Just a quick note to let you all know that I have submitted for (and have obtained) an NPI number, or National Provider Identification number, This is significant to my potential doula clients because it means that they may be able to submit to their insurance companies for some sort of reimbursement of my doula fees. There is no guarantee that insurance companies will reimburse for doula services, nor do I have any idea how much any of the insurance companies will reimburse if they are on board. My best advice is to give your insurance company a call and see what their side of the story is--and document everything (name of the person you spoke with, information they gave, their extension or badge number, time and date you called, etc.). I will help in whatever way I can, but obviously the final say is with the insurance company. My personal practice will be to collect my fees as normal, and any reimbursement from the insurance company would be yours.
The possibility of insurance reimbursement is awesome, don't you think? |
